Jogged about 2 miles in Boise in my old, black Salomons. Ran through neighborhoods by Lowell Scott Middle School. No major pain, but felt weak and terrible overall. Felt more fatigued towards the end of the run as the 95 degree heat began to take its toll. My run in Boise last November (Thanksgiving) felt lousy as well.

Walked 3.0 miles in Pocatello. It was a nice night, with very little wind.

Lifted chest and back before I jogged 3 miles on the ISU treadmill in my new Asics shoes.

Chest:

5 sets of 12-20 reps on the seated bench press cable machine.  I alternated grip position.

3 sets of 10-15 reps on the seated incline bench press cable machine (in corner). 

Back:

3-4 sets of 12-20 reps of cable pull-downs with the pull-up bar attachment going in front of my head. Something felt "tweaked" in my front left shoulder during all sets. I may have injured my shoulder playing with my parent's dog over the weekend. 

2-3 sets of 12-15 reps on the seated row cable machine near the pull up station.

Abs: 

2 sets of sit-ups on the incline machine

1 set of roman chair leg lifts

1 set of crunches on the ab machine (in corner) 

Jogging:

Increased rate from 5.6 at beginning of run, up to 7.0 on my last lap.  I used my new Asics shoes and the run felt very good. I think the shoes make a big difference.  I probably could have gone 4 or 5 miles at a slightly slower pace without much more difficulty.

wow "big" larry, you say you want to get fit... i think being able to run 4 or 5 miles is pretty fit! the weight should come off in no time if you keep that up. i know 110 pound girls that can't run that far... i guess life isn't fair some times!

P.S. I am trying to gain some muscle... in my arms and core. it seems like you are into lifting, so if you have any pointers let me know!

Ran 6 miles in 60 minutes on the ISU treadmill in my new Asics shoes. Most of my run was at a pace of 6.0 - 6.2, although I did increase the rate to 6.4 for about 0.5 miles, before I noticed some very slight tenderness in first only my left calf then only my right calf (they alternated, which was very weird), which subsided and mostly disappeared from mile 3 to the end of the run at mile 6. At the 5 mile mark I noticed some very slight tenderness in both of my knees until the end of the run.

It should also be noted that I had to stop after 30 minutes for about 30 seconds to restart the treadmill because they are programmed to automatically shut down after 30 minutes. Overall, I felt okay, but not great. I really do like these shoes, and think that they make a substantial difference versus my old New Balance and old Asics running shoes.

I hate when those darn gym treadmills turn off after a certain point (or start your cool down while you are still trying to run)!! I usually just quit, but you kept going! Great job.

If those shoes feel that perfect get more pairs now. I really liked the Mizuno Wave Inspire 3, but now I can't get them anywhere. The Inspire 4 isn't as comfortable. I wished I had stocked up on the 3's while they were still available.

I am amazed at your dedication. Especially when you consider how little sleep you get. I know that makes it extra tough when your are dieting because you feel tired and thus look for energy so you eat a little more. Keep up the great work and get a little more sleep. Good luck with your training.

Walked to the ISU gym and ran 2.5 miles on the treadmill before walking back home.

The run felt okay for the first 1-1.5 miles, but after about 1.5 miles I experienced a more severe tightness/cramp in my right calf than usual. Both of my calves have a tendency to experience minor stiffness during runs, but this time was more severe than anything I have felt in recent memory (>1+ years). I decided to try and "run through it" like I do with more minor stiffness, but that may have been unwise. I finally stopped short of my 3.0 mile goal at 2.5 miles to prevent any further harm. I probably shouldn't run for at least 5-7 days, and should instead utilize the stationary bicycle.

Everything else felt fine and I was hardly winded at the end of run. It should be noted that I was adequately hydrated, but that I may have been undernourished during the run. Just documenting this for future reference for possible causes of the calf cramp. I also ran 6 miles last Friday, which was the farthest I had ran since August 2007, which may also have contributed to the stiffness/cramp.

I walked 1.125 miles to the ISU outdoor track, ran 2.0 miles on the track, and walked 1.125 miles back home. Total distance = 4.25 miles. 

I hadn't planned on running, but when I saw that the track was open, I started walking on it, and it was so soft, that I decided to evaluate my right calf, since I haven't run on it in almost 2.5 weeks. The track felt great, and so did my right calf. On the 8th lap of the run, my legs felt slightly out of shape and fatigued (a noticeable 2+ week hiatus).

I am eager to get back on a consistent exercise routine!

I walked to the ISU outdoor track (1.0 mile), ran 3.0 miles, and walked back home (1.0 mile). Total distance was 5.0 miles.

The run felt okay, and my previously injured calf was fine. After the 2.0 mile mark, my leg muscles felt fatigued, but I am somewhat out of shape since I took a 2+ week layoff from aerobic exercising to rest my calf and keep up with school/life. The weather was chilly and breezy, and a black lab chased me during my first 1/4 lap and it took me until about 1.5-2.0 miles before my breathing and adrenaline returned to normal. These conditions made the run more difficult than it should have been. Otherwise, everything was fine.

I jogged 2 miles on the ISU treadmill. I was short on time so I decided to increase my pace relative to what I normally do. Most of my 2 miles was at a pace between a setting of 6.2 to 7.2. My last lap was between 7.0-7.2.

I felt okay, but it was obvious I have not run at that pace in many months (>1 year?). Also, at one point I felt some sharp, but brief (only for 1-2 steps) pain in my right knee (just below my kneecap, like I have experienced before for the past few years on occasion).
